Quantifying the Unquantifiable
For nearly fifty years, our service has been a quiet presence in the art market. Trusted but left largely unchanged, it waited for the right moment to awaken. That moment is now. We have renewed and reimagined our platform for a new generation, transforming decades of data into a living resource. Our mission is to guide galleries, advisors, academics and collectors with clarity, helping them navigate pricing, valuation, and market dynamics in a world that moves faster than ever.
No two clients need exactly the same thing. Some want raw data, others need smoothed trends, and still others require valuation benchmarks or historical context. We guide users through the options, helping them choose the lens that best suits their valuation question, market study, or collection strategy.
Revaluart â data valuations for professionals
Revaluart is more than an automated valuation model â itâs a suite of tools designed to support professionals who need credible, defensible valuations of artworks. Built on the same statistical foundation as our time series indexes, Revaluart gives direct access to the underlying data so that decisions can be made with confidence.
Whatâs included
- Automated Valuation Model (AVM)
Provides quick, data-driven estimates based on comparable past sales â ideal for grounding the valuation process. - Downloadable Charts & Reports
Visual outputs can be exported into desktop valuations, supporting cases where documentation is required (e.g. tax assessments, estate planning, or family law disputes). - Comparable Sales Finder
A curated list of recent auction lots saves time and ensures professionals can locate the most relevant benchmarks fast.
‘Create an Index’ service & Student packs
We maintain one of the longest continuously updated global art-auction datasets, beginning in 1975. This historical depth, combined with flexible parameters and the ability to group artists by school, era, or nationality, makes our platform a uniquely powerful resource for studying the art market as an asset class. Through our Create an Index tool, users can generate time-series charts directly from this datasetâideal for research, long-run analysis, and valuation purposes, including establishing 1982 CGT benchmarks. Ready made Index packs are also available to students.
Key features
- Time depth: Nearly five decades of auction data, allowing for long-run analysis rarely possible in other markets.
- Customisable parameters: Analyse by median, central 80% or 50% of values, and apply moving averages to uncover trends.
- Currency & inflation adjustments: Convert values across currencies and track real terms using US and UK consumer price indices.
- Segmentation: Group artists into schools, eras, or movements to compare how different segments have performed.
AMPI – Art Market Performance Indexes
For over a decade, the idea of art as an asset has rested on the belief that the market could generate metrics comparable to stocks and shares. Yet behind every data point lies a unique artworkâshaped by curatorial decisions, marketing strategies, and the selective machinery of the art trade. Financial professionals have long questioned the validity of treating such singular objects as financial instruments, while art-world insiders have been slow to acknowledge the marketâs structural biases.
The Art Market Performance Index takes a different approach. By focusing on the market-makersânot just the artistsâthe Index reveals how the auctions that control supply and visibility are performing over time. Built on one of the worldâs longest continuously updated auction datasets, starting in 1975, it provides a rare long-run view of market performance grounded in how the art economy actually operates.
Why it matters
- Adoption: Already attracting attention from the financial sector, where reliable cross-asset comparisons are vital.
- Benchmarking: A credible reference point for businesses comparing financial metrics against art as an alternative asset.
- Clarity: Built on a large, continuously updated dataset that brings structure and transparency to a market often seen as opaque.
